LA Artcore is pleased to present a solo exhibition of paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Raymond Logan. Painting: Objects & Portraits showcases Logan’s paintings in real life subject matter, its execution however, is firmly based in abstraction and intuition. We are all connected to people, places, and things, sometimes those connections are based on memories, sometimes they are immediate. Either way, ethereal or self-evident, they are shared. Logan’s art is a dialogue between the viewer and themselves, about those shared connections.
Logan focuses more on the way of expression rather than the content of his paintings stating, “The subject matter of my work is not as important as how I paint it.” Whether it be people, places, or things, the important thing is that his personality as an artist is visible through those themes. Logan believes the artist has to be there to see the point.
Over the years he has watched himself meticulously pick his subject matter based on two innate criteria: challenge and access. The subject has to be challenging him to express himself and grow as an artist. It must also afford access for the viewer; access to him as an artist and what he is trying to do. Even if viewers do not understand how he did it, the work must speak to them on some personal level and the subject matter often helps us find our common ground. Rather than view these works as abstract representations of people, places, or things, the artist views them as an abstract representation of himself—it represents his process of imagining.
Raymond Logan received his BFA from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 1988. He has been exhibiting in Los Angeles at George Billis Gallery/LA, Segil Fine Art, Pasadena Museum of History, the Beverly Hills Art Show, Laemmle Theaters and etc. He was also awarded from Randy Higbee Galler and Beverly Hills Art Show. Logan lives and works in Glendale, California.
